Kamoso always makes himself scarce and is difficult to see, but paradoxically wants to see people. His mother does not like to be seen at all by us or by tourists as she is afraid, and so she also makes sure Kamoso is hidden. But it is almost as if the curiosity is too much for him.
We also suspect Kamoso is very playful with his siblings – but only when we are not there to watch! This is an example of how gorilla behavior does actually change when humans are present. So even though gorillas have been habituated to human presence, their behavior can change.
Kamoso means “someone who is left-handed” in Kinyabwisha, the language that is spoken locally in and around the Gorilla Sector.
